It's "Tax Time"... Who/What is the IRS?

It's "Tax Time" again and I supposed I'll have to go through my box of receipts. You know, that box that never really gets filed. Throughout the years I have heard so many things about the IRS, so today I thought I'd surf the web and check out all I've heard.

This document answered some of my questions and I thought I should share it with you. I have listed links at the end of the posts. The author cites many documents that you can check yourselves. Then you can make the decision yourself on who or what the IRS really is. I just hope they don't come bursting through my doors.

Here are the questions that are posed. Are they questions that you may want answers to?

1. Is the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) an organization within the U.S. Department of the Treasury?

2. If not an organization within the US Department of the Treasury, then what exactly is the IRS?

3. By what legal authority, if any, has the IRS established offices inside the 50 States of the Union?

4. Can IRS legally show “Department of the Treasury” on their outgoing mail?

5. Does the U.S. Department of Justice have power of attorney to represent the IRS in federal court?

6. Were the so-called 14th and 16th amendments properly ratified?

7. Where are the statutes that create a specific liability for federal income taxes?

8. Can a federal regulation create a specific liability, when no specific liability is created by the corresponding statute?

9. The federal regulations create an income tax liability for what specific classes of people?

10. How many classes of citizens are there, and how did this number come to be?

11. Can one be a State Citizen, without also being a federal citizen?

12. Who was Frank Brushaber, and why was his U.S. Supreme Court case so important?

13. What is a “Withholding agent”?

14. What is a “Withholding Exemption Certificate”?

15. What is “tax evasion” and who might be guilty of this crime?

16. Why does IRS Form 1040 not require a Notary Public to notarize a taxpayer’s signature?

17. Does the term “United States” have multiple legal meanings and, if so, what are they?

18. Is the term “income” defined in the IRC and, if not, where is it defined?

19. What is municipal law, and are the IRC’s income tax provisions municipal law, or not?

20. What does it mean if my State is not mentioned in any of the federal income tax statutes?

21. In what other ways is the IRC deliberately vague, and what are the real implications for the average American?

22. Has Title 26 of the United States Code (“U.S.C.”) ever been enacted into positive law, and what are the legal implications if Title 26 has not been enacted into positive law?

23. What federal courts are authorized to prosecute income tax crimes?

24. Are federal judges required to pay income taxes on their pay, and what are the real implications if they do pay taxes on their pay?

25. Can federal grand juries issue valid indictments against illegal tax protesters?

26. Do IRS agents ever tamper with federal grand juries, and how is this routinely done?

27. What is “The Kickback Racket,” and where can I find evidence of its existence?

28. Can the IRS levy bank accounts without a valid court order?

29. Do federal income tax revenues pay for any government services and, if so, which government services are funded by federal income taxes?

30. How can the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) help me to answer other key tax questions?

31. Where can I find more information, and still protect my privacy?

This post is today's contribution to my search for knowledge.

Oh, and one more morsel of food for thought. When I was a supervisor, I had a clerk who just wasn't "clerk" material. She was a very nice person but you could tell she was not comfortable in the office. When I let her go, I sat with her for awhile talking. I wanted to see if she could be a fit in another department. She said she probably wouldn't because she had never worked in an office for any length of time. I asked her what she had done previously. She said she just quit her job as an IRS agent. She said she quit because of stress. She spent a number of years as a gun toting agent and she was always afraid she might have to use her gun. Did you know agents carried guns? Now, I'm scared.

A couple of hundred years later, they still think of ingenuous ways of sucking taxes out of us.

I told myself a long time ago that I would never be a blogger!

So, then, what am I doing here?

A little background then. I have to warn you though, that I'm probably going to be a little wary of letting you know who I really am and where I am really located. Why, you ask? Because I will probably need to do some bitching about something or someone and I don't want those "someones" to know I'm talking about them. I can be real mean.

I have my own little junk business (people like to call it an antique/collectible shop, but who am I kidding) in the middle of the desert. The desert description is not only a description of my physical location but of the desert-like mental atmosphere of my town. So, that's why the blog.

I run my little business by myself and a volunteer or two at times. I like keeping to myself except for one thing. I have no one to talk with. At least, there's only a few people in town with whom I can talk. I talk with my daughter, but I understand that her mind is on regular life. You know... the kids, family, work, what's on the news, and every once in awhile, something serious. When you're that young, why worry about the rest of the world. I talk with my husband, but I'm intermittantly pissed at him right now. Why? Because I'm old, and still worrying about money when I shouldn't have to. I'll save that story for the future, when I'm real mad. It could be soon!

I figure that if there's no one to talk with, why not talk to the world?! A little schizophrenic, huh? Well, no matter. There's so much I think about, at least this way I can get it out without someone looking at me crosseyed in wonder or confusion.

Believe it or not, I get happy sometimes. Usually, when I'm looking for junk for my shop and find something that gives you a better thrill than... well... an orgasm! Ok, too much information.

Then, there's life. It's hard having been a history major in college, then seeing the same ole crap happening again and again. So, I'm thinking, maybe I should share what's in my head. Maybe it'll clear it a bit (like formatting my hard drive, huh?) Then I can get over this lifelong insomnia.

What can you expect from this blog? My thoughts. My thoughts on everyone's personal business, what junk is good junk, the IRS, gambling, books I've read, political history (and history, in general), how many national banks the United States have had, stories that may be urban legend, my fascination with genealogy, aliens, bigfoot, and my new pug, Natasha.

Weird subjects? I'm sure there will be more I will think of.

It's 1:33 am now, and I feel better cause I'm finally starting this little diary of me. Feel free to be opinionated, concerned (of my mental stability, probably), or just a listener. I appreciate you being here and nodding your head in the affirmative as I ramble on. It's good for my spirit.

Bye bye for now.
